Average Wedding Hair and Makeup Cost in Washington State
Here’s what you can expect in 2026 for average prices:
Bride hair + makeup: $350 – $750+
Bridesmaids / guests: $120 – $250 per person
Trial session: $125 – $300
Travel fees: $75 – $300+ (higher for mountain/coastal locations)
If you’re getting married in Seattle or in high-demand areas, expect pricing at the top of that range.
If you’re planning an elopement in places like Olympic National Park, Mount Rainier, or the North Cascades, pricing often increases due to travel time, early start times, and more remote access.
Why Washington Weddings Change Hair and Makeup Pricing
Washington isn’t the most predictable when it comes to the weather. Here we have wind on the coast, moisture (and likely lots of rain) in the mountains, harsh midday sun or flat overcast light, and long hiking timelines for elopements.
A wedding hair and makeup artist is creating a look that holds up through all of that. That’s a big reason experienced artists charge more and why it’s usually worth it (says the big bald guy, but trust me on this one!).
What Impacts Wedding Hair and Makeup Prices in Washington
Location (Seattle vs. Remote Areas): Seattle-based artists typically charge more but remote locations often cost even more once travel is factored in.
Experience with Outdoor Weddings: Artists who regularly work elopements or outdoor weddings know how to prep for humidity, wind, the elements!
Timeline + Start Time: Early morning starts (very common for elopements) and tight timelines increase costs. This is especially true if additional artists are needed.
Size of Your Group: More people = more time + often a second artist.
Look Complexity: A natural and more minimal look usually has a lower cost than a full glam or intricate styling.
Wedding Hair and Makeup Packages in Washington (What’s Actually Included)
This obviously varies between artists, but here is a general idea.
Elopement / Small Wedding Packages
Bride hair + makeup
Optional trial
Travel included or bundled
Flexible timeline
Standard Wedding Packages
Bride + bridal party
Trial included
On-site services
Touch-up kits
Full-Service Packages
Multiple artists
Larger groups
All-day or extended coverage
Touch-ups throughout the day
If your timeline is spread out (which happens a lot with outdoor weddings), full-service coverage can make a big difference.
How to Budget for Wedding Hair and Makeup in Washington
This varies greatly, but in general most couples allocate about 5–12% of your total wedding budget towards hair and makeup.
But here’s the more practical way to think about it. If you’re investing in photography (which I truly hope you are), your hair and makeup directly affects how those photos turn out.
If you’re planning an elopement though, budget a little higher here than you think for the reasons mentioned earlier in the blog.
How to Choose the Right Hair and Makeup Artist in Washington State
Although it’s tempting to simply look at an artist’s Instagram and call it good, doing a good job researching the best vendor for you will be worth it.
Look for Real Wedding Work in Washington: Styled shoots don’t tell you how someone handles a full wedding or elopement in the wind, rain, or at a 5am start time.
Make Sure Their Style Matches Yours: Not every artist does “natural” well. Not every artist does “glam” well.
Ask About Specific Location Experience: If you’re getting married in Olympic National Park, Mount Rainier, or the North Cascades, you want someone who’s worked there before..
Pay Attention to Reliability: This matters more than people think. Timelines are tight, especially for elopements. Making sure they can show up on time and can finish their job is so important.
PRO TIP: Many wedding and elopement photographers like myself will provide you with vendor recommendations from trusted, reputable vendors that we’ve worked with in the past and would trust with my own hair and make up (if I had hair).
Questions to Ask Before Booking
Do you travel to my specific location in Washington?
Are travel fees included?
How early can you start?
How long will services take?
Do you offer trials?
What products do you use for long wear?
Do you stay for touch-ups?
These questions can be helpful to find out the right HMU artist for you since many don’t travel past a certain radius or are not available to meet you early in the day or in a remote location.
Are Hair and Makeup Trials Worth It?
Yes, especially in Washington. A trial lets you Test how your look holds up in real conditions, adjust anything that doesn’t feel like you, and build trust with your artist.
If you’re hiking, dealing with weather (which you will, it’s Washington after all), or planning a long day, this becomes even more important.
DIY vs. Professional Hair and Makeup
Should you hire a hair and makeup artist or DIY for your wedding or elopement?
When it comes to hair and makeup though, I think that it is 100% worth hiring a professional hair and makeup artist for your wedding and elopement for a couple of reasons:
1.) It’ll save you lots of stress! The less you have to worry about your wedding or elopement, the better. Having someone who knows what your day will entail (e.g. strong winds, rain, snow, a lot of sun if you're eloping) will make sure they style you and give you the right kind of makeup products that will be able to withstand the elements.
2.) It’ll save you time and effort. Even if you consider yourself a pro at doing your own hair and makeup, having a professional HMU artist do this for you will save you both time and effort, giving you more time to enjoy your day rather than struggling in front of the mirror.
3.) Professional HMU artists use professional, high-quality products that are truly meant to last you all day long, making it less likely to need touch ups during the day.
This will let you sweat, cry, and kiss your partner without worrying about smudging your makeup.
Final Thoughts: What Actually Matters
Wedding hair and makeup in Washington isn’t just about how it looks at the start of the day, It’s about how it holds up in wind, moisture, over hours of movement, and through everything your day throws at you
If you plan for that and hire someone who understands the PNW, you won’t have to think about it at all and can truly enjoy your elopement without a worry.
