Eloping at Deception Pass

Whether you’re getting married or already married but have that nagging “we should’ve just eloped” feeling Deception Pass is one of the most beautiful places Washington has to offer. Admittedly I’m a little biased, this is the same place that my wife and I eloped at a little less than a year ago.

Even though it’s a lot colder now than it was on our wedding day in April, showing up in the pre-dawn light brought back so many memories. It smelled the same. It sounded the same. I couldn’t help but think how lucky I am to have this place so close to where I live and to get to help another couple have the same experience that Ana and I had.

Emily and Chris are already married —they actually got married around the same time I did— but they had this feeling that they couldn’t shake. They wanted to have an elopement experience too.

For this elopement style shoot we met at Sunrise at Deception Pass just as the park ranger was opening the gate. They took a walk on the beach, showed their love for each other at the end of a dock, had a picnic, and walked on the bluffs. Then we drove to another part of the park where we took a walk through the woods to get a couple of pictures under the famous Deception Pass bridge.

For them, the day was less about what they did and more about how they did it. They felt like they had missed an opportunity to elope in having a big wedding and wanted to have a more intimate experience. Their love for each other was so clear throughout the day that helping them tell their story was as easy as showing them a direction and then following them as they went.
